Two studies are reported which investigate the relationship between sex-role orientation and memory for gender-related terms. Based on the concept of ‘cognitive schema’, theoretical models have recently been advanced suggesting that the schematic cognitive representation of gender facilitates the recall of words pertinent to gender. One of these models, Markus' self-schema theory, proposes that masculine and feminine sex-typed individuals have a better memory for terms that correspond to their respective self-schemata. Murphy, recently published in the prestigious journal Bioethics, on the supposed opposition between the views of the Catholic Church and what he calls “contemporary science” in relation to certain anthropological issues linked to the gender perspective. Considerable attention has been paid to the meaning of product-design gender cues regarding product and brand evaluations. According to self-congruity theory, the gender schema theory, as well as the product-schema congruity theory, traditional consumers react favorably toward sex- or gender-specific product attributes.
